Part 1: Simulation Preparation you will have an opportunity to put theory into practice by participating in an online simulation experience within a virtual classroom environment. This unique simulation experience will allow you to interact online in real time with two avatars—a Global ProTech employee and his manager, who are in the midst of a conflict. Although Global ProTech has a flex-time policy with regard to arrival time, the manager is frustrated because the employee has been chronically and unpredictably late to work. Unknown to the manager, the employee has recently taken on the care of an older parent. In the Simulation, you will be presented with four challenges related to the scenario above. Use the time this week to review the specifics of the experience as well as additional supportive information in the materials below. Conflict Management Simulation Preparation Material Conflict Management Scenario Background and Simulation Preparation Conflict Management Simulation Ideas and Resources Conflict Management Simulation Meeting Notes Template Global ProTech Flex-Time Policy Conflict Management Simulation Preparation Media Sample Simulation Video (located in the Week 5 Learning Resources) After the Simulation is complete in Week 6, you will have an opportunity to reflect on and discuss your experience during the Conflict Management Simulation Reflection Discussion in Week 7. Important Note: You will not be graded on your performance during the Simulation activity in Week 6; rather, this exercise is a tool to practice your skills and reflect on your approach. Part 2: Simulation Graded Assignment: Preparing Your Simulation Meeting Notes A key best practice for leading effective meetings is to create notes that will help you organize your thoughts, formulate and work toward your goals, and keep the meeting moving. Note: The approximate length of this media piece is 6 minutes. If you have already participated in a Simulation, you do not need to watch this video. However, if this is your first Simulation, please watch this video to orient yourself to this experience. In the video, you will see a sample simulation that takes place between a student, who plays the role of a manager, and two avatars, Max and Grant. This video demonstrates a simulation experience that is similar to the Simulation you will participate in. As you watch this video, keep in mind that Max, the avatar, is playing a different role, and during your Simulation, he will be playing the role of a department manager.
